Learning Morse Code

Posted by W8JKC on February 29th, 2008

I am going to try my hand at CW or morse code. (No Pun Intended.) The Massilon Amateur Radio Club is offering training on Friday nights at the Senio Center, and I am going to attend tonight to see if I can make it in this fun mode of operation.

Many hams will tell you that CW is no longer a part of Amateur Radio, because of the fact that a very small percentage of hams know how to send/receive morse code.

I will keep you updated on my progress.

I am going to use this at Field Day, as well as other times because I want to take on a great challenge.

Element 4 Testing

Posted by W8JKC on February 20th, 2008

I am finally going to test for Element 4 (Extra Class License). The session is this Saturday Feb. 23rd 2008.

I was first licensed on 7/09/2007 as KD8GPL so I am moving fairly fast. I am also registering for a VE license from ARRL/VEC. So I will be able to help other people in my community become Hams. I currently only operate 2m Mobile, however, I am saving up for HF equiptment, possibly a TS-480 with an extra control head so all I have to do is move the radio from home to mobile and back. I might use a TarHeel Antenna, or something similar possibly hitch mount or bumper mount, I am not sure yet.

Wish me luck!

Currently, I have the WWV solare flux data, and it is only available to Skype users or SIP users (unless you want the long distance number).

For Skype: Dial +990009369992001989

For SIP: Dial sip:9992001989@sip.voxeo.net

For Long Distance Direct:  (412) 528-4623

For Toll Free Pin Access:  (800) 289-5570 then after prompt enter 9992001989

This hotline is still in development so don\’t be suprised if it doesn\’t work or something is changed.

I am working on getting a local number for Canton, OH (area code 330).
